The project introduces a series of targeted interventions to an existing Californian bungalow, addressing harsh western sun and improving connections to the garden. The rear facade is adapted to better respond to its orientation, with a new window seat positioned beneath the existing eave. This provides shade and protection to the new glazing while establishing a closer visual and physical connection to the garden.
A new pergola and covered walkway connects the main residence to the former garage, creating a sheltered transition between the two buildings and allowing the connection to be used throughout the year.
The upper floor is reconfigured as a more private retreat, making use of previously underutilised spaces, including an existing outdoor balcony. Rather than expanding the building footprint, the project focuses on adapting existing spaces and improving their relationship to each other and the surrounding neighbourhood context.
