This significant house on a corner site in Brunswick West has had many previous lives; from a handsome terrace house to a multi-generational shop-house owned by Italian migrants. Our project refurbishes the existing terrace house, alongside reimagining a poorly designed extension.
We have tried to preserve as much of the 1980’s lean-to as we could, retaining its solid boundary wall while introducing a new entry. It is purposefully human scaled so that it contributes and engages with the local streetscape.
We set the new roof back to allow northern sun in, maintaining privacy from the street, and reducing the overall mass and height of the building.
